The Faculty of Energy of the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute was transformed into an independent university - Almaty Institute of Energy (AIE)

The institute became financially independent and self-sufficient

AIE became the first university in Kazakhstan certified by the State Education Inspection Commission of the USSR

Almaty Institute of Energy was liquidated and merged into the Kazakh National Technical University as a structural division - educational and scientific complex

The Almaty Institute of Energy and Communications (AIEC) was created - the first non-state technical university in Kazakhstan

The first students were enrolled in a masters program
